Wattlesborough to discuss pylons plans
Monday 18th April 2011, 6:53PM BST.
A public meeting will be held in a village near Shrewsbury next week as campaigners rally against plans which could see hundreds of pylons put up in Shropshire and Mid Wales.
Councillor David Roberts, Shropshire Council ward member for Loton, claims the proposals by National Grid could “desecrate” the county’s countryside.
The proposals would see new wind farms being built in Mid Wales connected to the National Grid from Oswestry and Shrewsbury through a new 400,000-volt connection between a proposed new substation and an existing power line.
National Grid has already held a number of meetings as part of its official consultation over the plans. But Mr Roberts has organised one of his own to give people the chance to learn more about the plans.
The meeting will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, April 27, at Wattlesborough Village Hall, near Shrewsbury.
Mr Roberts said Powys Councillor Wynne Jones, who represents Abermule, where a controversial substation could be built, was also due to attend.
Councillor Roberts said: “I have organised the meeting and I am also hoping Daniel Kawczynski, the MP for Shrewsbury & Atcham, will also be there.”
He said: “I am concerned about them desecrating our beautiful countryside.”
