NSPCC to pull out of Shropshire
Friday 15th April 2011, 11:28AM BST.
A children’s charity is pulling out of Shropshire with the decision to axe its county office as part of a national restructure.
Officials at the NSPCC said it had been a “difficult decision” to axe the office in Shrewsbury Business Park.
But it said it needed to concentrate its staff in locations where it could provide the maximum impact for children in danger.
It is not yet clear if and how many staff will lose their jobs.
There are eight employees who work at the centre, including seven children’s services practitioners.
But the charity said today it would continue to work with families in the county which need its help.
The charity said its new strategy was based on helping many more children than it did now.
NSPCC has reviewed its current locations and agreed where services will be located in the future.
It was decided that the Shrewsbury site would not be a suitable NSPCC service centre location, as compared to other areas in the West Midlands region, the area does not have high levels of deprivation and has a smaller population.
The Shrewsbury service will close by the end of March 2012.
The charity today said that it would do “everything it can” to make sure that children and families currently using its services were supported.
