Court told of Telford rapist’s words to victim
Wednesday 13th April 2011, 11:14AM BST.
A rapist told his screaming victim he had been “told to do this by someone” as he attacked her near Randlay Woods in Telford, a court has heard.
In a police interview, the woman, who had been walking home, described how the rapist remained calm throughout the attack, which happened about 5.15pm on August 11, 2009.
Jamie Findlater, 19, of Doddington, Hollinswood, Telford, denies three charges of rape. He also denies robbery.
Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday heard the attacker grabbed the victim, who is in her mid-20s, from behind, placing his hand over her mouth, before dragging her through bushes to a freight rail line, where he raped her.
In a video of the police interview, shown to the jury, the victim said: “He kept covering my face saying he didn’t want me to see, but I said ‘Too late, I have already seen you’.
“He then said ‘I have been told to do this by someone. I can’t tell you. They will kill me if I tell you’.
“I fell on my back and I was tangled up with my bag and my headphones were tangled in it. He sat on top of me and put his hands on my face so I couldn’t see.”
The court heard after the ordeal, the victim ran away and called for help. She then went to the police station.
In the video, she described her attacker as slim, 6ft, with dirty blond hair and acne scarring on his face.
The court was told Findlater was arrested in December and was part of an identity parade with eight others. But the victim did not identify him.
Mr Denis Desmond, prosecuting, said: “It was three-and-a-half months after the event, change in the length and colour of the defendant’s hair. Hardly surprising she didn’t identify him.”
The trial continues.
