Telford nightclub owner’s robbery ordeal
Tuesday 12th April 2011, 2:55PM BST.
A SHROPSHIRE NIGHTCLUB owner was flagged down in his sports car, handcuffed and left in a quiet country lane as thieves fled with the car and £1,000 in cash.
Costas Vanezi, owner of Pussycats in Wellington, Telford, was driving his Audi A8 along the lane in Marsh Green, near Longdon-on-Tern, Telford, between 4.45am and 5am on Sunday when the attack happened.
Mr Vanezi owns several businesses in Telford town centre including The Dragons Den Chinese restaurant, Club Crush & Vox Bar and The Britannia Fish Bar and Kebab House.
Today he said the robbery was too difficult to speak about.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “Two men flagged him down. The victim stopped his car and spoke to the men before getting out of the car.
“After a brief conversation, one of the men grabbed the victim and managed to get some plastic handcuffs onto his wrists. He was then pushed away from his car, the two men jumped into it and made off.”
Mr Ammonds said the car had very little petrol left in it and was found by police a few hours later abandoned outside a house in Chetwynd Road, Edgmond.
“The car was undamaged however, when it was stolen there was more than £1,000 in cash in a briefcase inside and the briefcase was missing.”
Descriptions given by Mr Vanezi say the first man was white, about 5ft 8inches tall with a “boxer type” nose, while the second man was a little taller and a bit thinner.
Police want to speak to anyone with information on the incident or who may have seen the car being dumped.
Anyone with information can call Telford police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
