A woman of 80 has died in a fire at her static caravan at a holiday park near Shrewsbury. She was in the caravan at Beaconsfield Caravan Park, Upper Battlefield, when the blaze broke out.
The fire broke out just after 10pm on Saturday. It is understood emergency services managed to pull the woman, who has not been named but lived alone in the caravan, from the fire but she died at the scene.
A joint investigation by police and the fire service has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
Detective Inspector Mick Homden, from West Mercia Police, said: “At this stage there is nothing to suggest there are any suspicious circumstances.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said a paramedic incident support officer had attended the incident.
He said: “On arrival at the scene, the paramedic found a static caravan that had suffered a severe fire. The fire service were also in attendance. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman occupant and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
The coroner for Mid and North Shropshire has been informed and a post mortem was being organised to establish the cause of death. Anybody with any information about the fire can call police on 0300 3333000.
People living near the caravan park today spoke of their shock at the blaze.
Reverend Rob Haarhoff, vicar at nearby Astley St Mary the Virgin Church, said: “It’s a terrible tragedy.”
Dot Higgins, from Hadnall said: “I was driving back from Shrewsbury and I looked across and saw the fire. I thought the sky was lit up and could see it wasn’t a bonfire but it was an enormous fire.”

The emergency services did not pull the lady from the fire. My father Mr N J Cousins was the first on the scene risked his life in the heat flames and acrid smoke did, but the poor lady had passed away.

The person who pulled the woman out of the fire was my farther Neville Cousins, who has a caravan across from the caravan that was on fire he broke in and found the woman who very sadly had died.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME!!!
