Ludlow campaign launched for Diamond Jubilee celebrations
Thursday 7th April 2011, 4:20PM BST.
A campaign has been launched to raise about £16,000 in Ludlow to throw a “party to remember” for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The cash from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Ludlow Celebration Fund will be put towards marking 60 years of the monarch’s reign next summer.
Ideas include public events of celebration and creating a Ludlow mug to commemorate the landmark year.
Committee members will hold their first fundraising event on April 22 with a cheese and wine evening at 7.30pm at Ludlow Brewery on Station Road. For tickets, call (01584) 874444, (01584) 873324 or (01584) 877852.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be officially celebrated across Britain from June 2 to 5 next year.
Jenny Vaughan, a spokesman for the Ludlow committee, said: “We are hoping to hold a wide community-based celebration and it is going to be a big and mammoth task.”

Not much to celebrate about the last 30 years. Pity the Queen is not in a position to hold to her coronation oaths and protect the British constitution. But I suppose it all must be good for tourism, the head of state reduced to a tourist atraction.
