Drugs and guns found at Shropshire farmhouse

A haul of illegal drugs, ammunition and cash was seized in a raid at a Shropshire farmhouse. About 25 police officers swooped on the property in Alveley, near Bridgnorth.

Cannabis, firearms ammunition and £8,700 in cash were seized in the raid.

Several wild goldfinches were also taken during the joint raid by West Mercia police, the RSPCA, Shropshire Council’s animal welfare unit, the National Wildlife Crime Unit and the National Plant and Equipment Register.

The farmhouse, outbuildings and a caravan were searched by the team of officers as part of the investigation.

Officers arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate and obstructing the police.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the same firearms offence, possessing a controlled drug and theft.

Both were taken into custody at Kidderminster Police Station and released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police today said RSPCA officers issued warnings to the owner about the farm’s livestock and ordered them to “clean and improve conditions” on the farm.

Shropshire Council chiefs are also investigating suspected offences relating to possessing horses without the correct documentation and sheep movement regulations.

The warrant was granted by magistrates under the Wildlife Crime and Theft Acts and was carried out after a briefing at Bridgnorth police station.

The raid happened on March 24 but was not revealed until today by police.
