The stars of this year’s Ludlow Festival have revealed they cannot wait to return to the town.

Award-winning actress and singer Barbara Dickson has described the town as “fantastic” ahead of her performance at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on July 9. And the Three Welsh Tenors have hailed the “intimate atmosphere” in the town’s St Laurence’s Church, where they will play on June 27.

Mrs Dickson has previously appeared at Ludlow Castle, while Rhys Meirion of the Three Welsh Tenors has performed at the festival on several occasions.

They are among a star-studded line-up at this year’s festival which will include Only Fools and Horses actor John Challis, Boycie, taking on the role of Malvolio in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at Ludlow Castle. Other headliners include Germaine Greer and Shakin’ Stevens.

Mrs Dickson will perform a collection of her favourite songs in the town for one night only.

She said: “I am really looking forward to playing at Ludlow. I’ve only once played there (in the castle) years ago and it was just fantastic.”

Mr Meirion said it would be the first time his co-stars Alun Rhys-Jenkins and Aled Hall would be preforming at the festival.

He said: “I have enjoyed singing at the Ludlow Festival over the years, not only is it a beautiful town but the audiences in the intimate atmosphere of the church are always so warm and friendly.”

The festival runs from June 25 to July 10. Details at www.ludlowfestival.co.uk
