Telford police officers hurt in struggle with drunken man
Saturday 2nd April 2011, 12:20PM BST.
Two police officers were injured in a violent struggle with a drunken man on the landing of a Telford house, a court heard.
Officers used CS spray in a bid to restrain Michael Bu- tler, 31, in a domestic dispute, magistrates were told. He had wrapped his arms around the banister rail and had kicked out at the officers, the court heard.
At Telford Magistrates Court yesterday Butler admitted assaulting Constables James Williams and Andrew Bracebridge on Tuesday afternoon. No evide- nce was offered by the prosecution after Butler denied assaulting his partner Natalie Bell on the same day.
Sentence was adjourned for reports until April 21 and Butler, of Spout Way, Malinslee, was allowed bail.
Miss Kate Price, prosecuting, told the court four officers were needed to arrest Butler. CS spray was used but had little effect.
Miss Price said Butler tried to bite the arm of one officer and spat at him.
The court heard Constable Bracebridge suffered bruising and swelling to the fingers of his right hand and grazing to the back of his left hand and the skin on Constable Williams’s forearm was broken. Mr John McMillan, for Butler, said there were mental health is- sues and both his client and Miss Bell had been upset.
