Heavy gear stolen from Shropshire railway group

Thousands of pounds of equipment has been stolen in a raid on a Shropshire heritage railway group’s base after thieves struck between about 5pm on Sunday and early yesterday.
Brian Rowe, a volunteer working to restore a train line near Oswestry, discovered items, including four Diesel Multiple Unit engines, 26 chairs, four fishplates and several sleepers and signalling equipment were missing from Cambrian Heritage Railways in Llynclys.
He said the items were heavy and a crane would have been needed to move them.
Mr Rowe said: “We have had a major break-in between Llynclys pool and the 483 crossing. It is the biggest break-in we have had. We’ve not had such a large amount taken before.
“We are so upset. The engines mean so much to us. We bought them three to four years ago. It is dreadful, it is soul-destroying.”
A spokesman for West Mercia Police confirmed they had received a report of a burglary and asked witnesses to call 0300 333 3000.
