Beer lovers raise glass to Oswestry ale festival
Friday 1st April 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Lovers of real ale will be flocking to Oswestry this weekend for an annual beer festival.
Oswestry Lions Club is kicking off its third annual Real Ale Festival at the Memorial Hall, Smithfield Street, tonight from 6pm.
There will be more than 20 barrels of beer, all supplied by local breweries, at the event, including the town’s own Stonehouse brewery.
The brewery has been helping by sourcing the beers, providing specialist equipment and supporting the event.
Shropshire’s branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has also helped out with organising the weekend event. The festival, which is in its third year, will continue tomorrow, noon until 11pm, and Sunday from noon until 4pm. The event will also include music and food.
Alison Parr, from Stonehouse brewery, said: “We have been involved since the first festival and are looking forward to this one. We have supplied three beers this year.”
Entry costs £7 and will give the ticket holder their first four half pints and a commemorative glass tankard.
Clive Humphries, spokesman for the club, said: “Every penny of profit will contribute towards the Lions’ work.”
