Wednesday 30th March 2011, 11:20AM BST.
Arriva Trains Wales today confirmed it has no plans to run a direct rail service from Shropshire to London.
Today a spokeswoman for Arriva Trains Wales said: “I can confirm that Arriva Trains Wales has no plans at this time to reopen a service along this line of route.”
Yesterday there were fresh hopes for the possibility of a direct link from Shrewsbury to London after Shropshire, Telford and the Marches Strategic Rail Group voted to lobby Government to back its ambitious plans.

Why would Arriva Trains WALES run a Shropshire to London service?
Would we want Arriva running it anyway? Their cattle wagons are so out of date it’s an ordeal using their trains from Shrewsbury to Biringham let alone all the way to London. Maybe London Midlands might take up the offer – at least their carriages are a more pleasant experience.

Because, Stuart, they run services from Wales into Birmingham and Birmingham International. And they are the only company operating ANY trains in Shropshire on Sundays. (London Midland do not do a Sunday service, so if it were not for Arriva, Shrewsbury, Wellington and Telford would have no trains on a Sunday. At all.
