Letter: Er… just how dangerous are illuminated taxi signs?

Letter: I see Shropshire Council wants taxi firms to remove their illuminated signs “to protect public safety in accordance with national best practice guidelines”.

How are the public put at risk by taxi signs? What next? Police cars and ambulances banned from having blue flashing lights?

And this all comes at the same time as they stick a red nose on the Shirehall.

Maybe the Lib-Dems could call an extraordinary meeting to discuss it for a couple of minutes.

Obviously they wouldn’t need taxis with their expenses and free parking spots.

Meanwhile, could the Shropshire Star use the Freedom of Information Act to find out how many people have died from flying taxi signs compared to those who have had heart attacks from council stupidity!

I’m all for the idea, they are very dangerous, especially at night. While the council are at it, maybe they could take a look at traffic lights too. Situated on the the roadside, changing colour every few minutes, very distracting. Flashing beacons on pedestrian crossings also are a source of danger, get rid of them.
Where do you stop? Obviously the council have too much time on their hands if they can waste time even THINKING about such a stupid idea.
I have a better idea, get rid of the councillors and replace them with ones who actually originate from the same planet as the people they “supposedly” represent.

On a serious note compared to colin although i did laugh a little at it, the only taxis with a sign should be the hackney type or ones you hail on the street or at the station. Private hire fees are changing in line with neighbouring councils so why not have the same benefits as them such as magnetic signs front PH plates and a council that knows the regulations for Hackney and Private hire vehicles!!!! roll on when every vehicle they register is a hackney because it will save me and 100′s of operators any fees for being an operator.

Nice to see that our council are still employing people, of the same calibre that they have employed for the last decade or two.
Shame they can’t employ people with common sense and a sense of reality, with the new regime.

I would love to have a read of these “best practice” guidelines, especially when I need a good laugh.
