Walford and North Shropshire College staff to join strike action

Teaching staff at a Shropshire college are set to strike tomorrow in protest at proposed changes to their pension arrangements.

Members of the University and College Union are set to walk out at Walford and North Shropshire College.

It is part of a national day of action and is expected to cause disruption for students at campuses in Walford and Oswestry.

Andrew Tyley, college principal, said: “I expect some staff to take part in the strike, not all. We are making contingency plans.”

Teaching is a profession which as the police should not have the right to strike. However as with all they could retain the right to withdraw labour and face the consequences the same as anyone else who did not have a valid reason not to turn up for work.
