MP Kawczynski in Shropshire hospitals plea
Wednesday 23rd March 2011, 3:36PM GMT.
Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski today issued a last-ditch plea for county health chiefs to abandon plans for a shake-up of hospital services on the eve of four important meetings to decide their fate.
It comes as the Shrewsbury MP and his Mid Wales counterpart, Glyn Davies, MP, were preparing to tonight hand over petitions to Parliament with 40,000 signatures against plans to downgrade women and children’s services at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust plans to make the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford the centre for such services while the RSH would assume the role for acute surgery and major trauma.
A decision on whether to push forward with the proposals is due to be made tomorrow.
Mr Kawczynski today said: “I am going to be presenting a petition this evening with 29,500 signatures, I have never received such a large petition in my six years as an MP. Glyn Davies will also be presenting a petition from across the border which has about 10,000 signatures so that is 40,000 people who have tak-en the time to object to this.”
He added: “This would basically be a hugely flawed strategy and I appeal for the trust not to ignore the views of my constituents and the consultants.”
Fears have been voiced during the public consultation that lives could be put at risk because of extra travel times.

Mr Kawczynski’s wasting the breath he couldn’t catch on his recent TV interview.
I’ve never heard such babbling nonsense as the defence he attemped outside parliament last week. “Build a new hospital at a midway point between the towns” Hahahahaha.

I hope they drop these plans, it’s madness to close these wards.
