Detectives release more details of Shropshire robbery

Robbers who attacked an elderly couple in their Shropshire home drove off at speed without their lights on, detectives said today.

The male victim, who is in his 80s, was attacked with his walking stick when the robbers barged in at his home in Quatt, near Bridgnorth.

The robbers snatched a phone out of the hands of his elderly wife as she tried to call for help on Sunday night and demanded her to hand over her jewellery.

Two of the robbers forced their way in while the third man kept watch outside.

The couple were held in the living room while the second robber searched the house. They took jewellery and a purse.

Detective Constable Will Quan said the thieves were believed to have driven off in a vehicle without the lights on in the direction of Bridgnorth.

“They used torches, as there are no street lamps along that stretch of road, and the one keeping watch outside was seen shining his torch up and down the road,” he said.

“The A442 is a busy road and it is very likely that someone would have driven past at the time and possibly seen these persons at the address. We believe they made off at speed in a car towards Bridgnorth without its lights on, so anyone who might have passed such a vehicle is also urged to contact us on 0300 333 3000.”

The couple were left shaken and upset and the man needed treatment at the scene for a minor head injury.
