Shrewsbury Blockbuster store to become restaurant?
Monday 21st March 2011, 6:00PM GMT.
A new restaurant could open at a Shrewsbury retail park, if fresh plans get the go-ahead.
Plans have been submitted to change the use of part of Unit 9 at Meole Brace Retail Park from retail to a restaurant.
The part of the unit affected by the plans is currently a Blockbuster Video store.
The proposals have been submitted by the unit’s owners, Coal Pension Properties Ltd, after the expiry of permission granted in 2008 to convert the site into a cafe or restaurant.

A restaurant on a retail park?
Hello Frankie & Benny’s, home of gloopy carbohydrate-laden fayre with barely a fresh vegetable in sight.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Frankie & Benny’s do in fact want a property in Shrewsbury. Great.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that a restaurant will open. It was granted permission in 2008 and the conversion hasn’t happened (they have a 3 year time period for commencement of works) – they’re just keeping their options open and renewing their planning approval.

It’s a load of rubbish! I work at blockies and we have just re-leased for 5 years it is carphone ware house that has received the letters from the council not us! It gets really frustrating when the papers don’t get their facts right. All i want to here at work is ” ooh when you closing, are you loosing your job”. I’m settling it now!!! NO!! But on the exciting front sainsburys is gaining a second floor and a two levelled car park!!
