Letter: Welshpool one-way system is working. What, seriously?
Monday 21st March 2011, 6:00AM GMT.
Letter: I obviously live in a parallel universe to Welshpool Town Council when they say, and I quote from the Shropshire Star, “The one-way system is working perfectly” .
As I move about Welshpool, going to meetings, shopping, anywhere people congregate and chat, the main topic of conversation is how much longer it has taken them to arrive, and what a pain in the neck the system is.
I have yet to meet anyone who is happy with it.
Disabled people were amazed to find pavements blocked with road signs to do with the one-way system, so that they had to drop down on to the busy road in order to carry on. Who planned that?
Was any planning done at all?
Guilsfield people say it’s easier to hop on the bus to Oswestry to shop than come into Welshpool.
A tour company which usually picks us up by the Tourist Office rang to say it must now pick up at Four Crosses.
This was because it has a timetable to keep to.
I hope Tesco has paid the town enough to compensate.

like i said people will now avoid welshpool due to waiting times in traffic and we all use bypass also people who live in guilsfield take the oswestry road to welshpool and avoid welshpool because of traffic delays
never mind welspool town traders will be ones suffer as its easier to go tesco by the bypass than go round to other supermarkets in town.

I went in last week and it is not even holiday season yet, and it was very busy through the old spar car park with traffic queuing to go towards newton or centre of welshpool, it will be chaos once the easter and summer holidays are here. Oh well more walking and less driving into Welshpool, one good thing I suppose

It’s a feeding funnel for Tesco…as it was always designed to be. No more holiday stop-offs to wander up the High Street and make that impulse purchase or visit a cashpoint. Someone has been suckered…big time.
