Ex-Shropshire WI chairman is critically ill in New Zealand

A former chairman of Shropshire’s Women’s Institute is critically ill in New Zealand after suffering a fall while visiting a friend.

Christine Marsh, from Walford Heath near Baschurch, collapsed shortly after hitting her head, and had to be airlifted to hospital.

Her son Viv, who runs Viv Marsh Postal plants, and eldest daughter Judith – a leading haematology professor – jetted out to be at her bedside in Dunedin.

Viv said today: “Sadly mum’s condition is still very serious, but she really is receiving the very best medical care. Doctors and friends in New Zealand have been absolutely marvellous.

“Judith is still out there with her and will stay there until Mum can be flown home.”

Mrs Marsh, a magistrate, keen Shrewsbury Flower Show member and regular West Mid Show steward, was on a three-month visit.

Mrs Marsh’s daughter Ursula, who lives with her husband and two children in Shrewsbury, is helping to co-ordinate her passage home.
