Health bosses back Shropshire hospitals shake-up
Tuesday 15th March 2011, 3:15PM GMT.
Shropshire health watchdogs today confirmed their support for plans to reshape services at the county’s two main hospitals after holding a crucial meeting to consider the proposals.
They discussed the proposals last Friday, broadly backing them, but have since spent more time studying the evidence before formally making a decision.
Under the plans women and children’s services would be concentrated at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital, and the Royal Shrewsbury will become the main surgical centre.
In a statement today, the joint health overview and scrutiny committee of Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council said it was unanimously recognised that changes needed to be made, and believed that retaining the status quo wasn’t an option.
The committee had given its support to the proposals, subject to further reassurances that they were safe, sustainable and affordable.
Gerald Dakin, joint chairman, said: “We accept that these proposals are clinically-based and will ensure that the safety of Shropshire’s patients is paramount.”
Councillor Dakin said the committee believed the new configuration would help the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust provide a “centre of excellence” for each site, and it will continue to monitor proposals.

Here’s a new option, why not get the good folks of Wales to fund and operate a new hospital say in Welshpool and then the people from Shrewsbury can have a nice trip out in the welsh countryside en route there?

Setting aside the fact that we wouldn’t need any cuts if only we could get the rich to pay their share in tax, as I understand it, the good people of Wales have recently voted for greater autonomy in how they run their affairs.
That’s absolutely fine, and I understand they use some of their health budget to provide free prescriptions – again – fine by me.
But given that degree of autonomy, can someone please explain why they should seek to have such a large say in the placement of hospital services within Shropshire? More to the point, why is a Shropsahire MP so vehement in seeking to look after the people of Wales? Wasn’t he elected to represent someone else?

Oh well they better have big pile of cash for all the out of court payouts that they will need to meet when people die due to this totally stupid idea.
You can see that the committee are more interested in the bank balance than people lives. If they are not careful PRH and RSH will end up with the same issues that have blated South Staffs…
