£10m Telford road repairs set to be approved

A massive £10 million scheme to repair roads throughout Telford and replace the borough’s street signs look set to be approved by council chiefs.

The multi-million pound plans are expected to be rubber-stamped by Telford & Wrekin Council’s ruling cabinet when it meets on Wednesday.

The scheme will see changes to street lighting, bridges and highways in a bid to improve roads and footpaths.

The lump sum also includes £500,000 to be spent on sign maintenance and road markings.

Other work planned under the £10 million scheme includes resurfacing works at the roundabout on Hall Park Way, near Telford’s Odeon Cinema and retail parks.

There will also be resurfacing work at the Cock Hotel junction in Wellington, which will cost about £100,000.

A further £207,000 will be spent on resurfacing on Wombridge Road in Trench.

Councillor Adrian Lawrence, cabinet member for environment and rural at Telford & Wrekin Council, said the investment followed feedback from residents who last year said road signs and markings needed to be improved.

“The investment covers wards and parishes across the borough and a number of projects have been developed in partnership with parish and town councils,” he said.

“As well as more typical highway and transport schemes, the programme also confirms the investment being made through the Borough Towns Initiative on regeneration schemes.

“This will improve the appearance and condition of footways and roads in the centre of Dawley and Oakengates as well as the Southwater Development.”

Whilst it is about time we had decent investment in this particular area, I cant help but wonder just how long the council have had this money and question the timely decision to let people know about it.

Cut backs left, right and centre, jobs are going, yet this is happening, I sense a little bit politicking going on by the current administration.
