A Shropshire road — closed after a two-tonne truck plunged into a 7ft hole which opened up in the middle of it — is expected to be shut over the weekend.

Council chiefs said repair work on the A464, at the junction of Holyhead Road and Patshull Lane in Boningale, Albrighton, was due to start today.

Severn Trent Water is also working to repair the burst pipe thought to have caused the hole.

Two county brothers managed to leap from the truck on Monday just before the vehicle nose-dived into the hole.
