Shrewsbury man battered with electric knuckleduster, court told
Thursday 10th March 2011, 8:00PM GMT.
A man was battered with an electrified knuckleduster and slashed across the face with a knife when a violent row erupted over drugs at a Shrewsbury home, a court heard.
Russell Higham was allegedly one of three men who smashed the door of Neil Watkins’s home off its hinges before bursting inside and attacking him.
The three-minute attack in Mount Street left him with multiple injuries, including a deep gash stretching from his ear to his lip, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard today.
Higham, 33, of Pelham Road, Upton Magna, Shrewsbury, denies wounding with intent.
The jury heard the attack happened on November 19 last year.
Mr Peter Arnold, prosecuting, said: “He could have been killed. The case has got drugs written all over it.
“The victim lives in a second floor property, he is someone who is involved in class A drugs and was clearly part of the Shrewsbury drugs scene, as are the defendants and his friends.”
He added: “These men burst into the defendant’s flat and they burst in with such force to knock the door off its hinges.
“The attack took place in his bedroom – it was clearly a determined attack. Two of the men were masked up so he couldn’t see them, but he could see the third man who was this defendant.
“An unusual weapon was used, a knuckleduster which fits into the hand and has two prongs which give out an electric shock to the victim.”
The trial continues.
