Talks over future of Shropshire DHL depot

Trade unions and workers at a Shropshire deliveries depot have entered negotiations with bosses over possible redundancies, it was revealed today.

But managers at DHL Domestic in Stafford Park 7, Telford, have refused to disclose how many jobs are at risk, which unions are involved or if the firm will remain in the town.

The future of the depot is being reviewed amid the ongoing re-branding of Home Delivery Network and DHL Domestic under one new name, Yodel.

Ben Fry, spokesman for DHL Domestic, said: “We confirm that we have now entered into a consultation period with unions regarding our proposal for the Telford site. While we are in this consultation process, it is not appropriate to comment further.”

Home Delivery Network took over DHL’s domestic parcels business in March 2010 to form the second-largest parcel delivery business after Royal Mail.

Other divisions of DHL, including the Express and International arms of its business, are not involved.

A spokesman for Telford DHL Express, which is based at Stafford Park 12, said: “DHL Domestic is now a completely different division to us. We don’t know what is happening regarding the consultation, but can say that DHL Domestic works completely independently from us.”
