Shropshire activity centre’s future is secure
Monday 7th March 2011, 3:09PM GMT.
The future of a Shropshire activity centre has been secured for the next 20 years after an “astonishing” fundraising effort – with a major refurbishment project on the verge of being completed almost a year ahead of schedule.
More than £40,000 was raised for the second phase of refurbishment at Longmynd Adventure Camp in the Shropshire Hills near Church Stretton during 2010 in grants and donations.
But organisers have revealed an extra £17,000 has been handed over by the Roy Fletcher Charitable Trust to pay for the final phase of refurbishment, installing solar panels for heating and power.
Centre bosses had hoped to complete the project by 2012 at the earliest but will now finish it within months.
