Steam fans lined Shropshire’s tracks to see a famous locomotive pass through the county at the weekend. The 71000 Duke of Gloucester passed through stations in Prees, near Whitchurch and Shrewsbury on Saturday.
The county visit was part of a return trip to the capital. More than 400 passengers jumped on board at London Euston on Saturday morning and arrived back there one minute early later that evening.
The journey has been hailed as a success by train operators who said feedback from passengers had been “positive”.
Pictures and videos of the locomotive’s journey have already been posted on the internet, including YouTube.
Phil Bicknell, of UK Railtours, said today: “It was a very successful trip and it arrived in London Euston about one minute early.
“There were about 430 passengers on the train and the feedback from them was very positive and they said they really enjoyed it.”
The 71000 was withdrawn in 1962 after only eight years in service.
But the Duke of Gloucester Steam Locomotive Trust eventually acquired the badly decayed remains and restoration began in 1975.
The trust took the opportunity to make many improvements, including the fitting of the correct exhaust system.

So not only does your 3 year old know the appropriate combination of aperture, shutter speed and ISO to achieve the motion blur and depth of field in the first photo, whilst avoiding blown highlights and blocked shadows, they can also use a tripod, understand the compositional techniques used in the shot and possess the post-processing know-how to achieve the gritty, industrial look in the finished image?
Impressive. They should put on an exhibition.
addmitedly the first photo is impressive but begs the question why were they so near the tracks in the first place and were they trespassing…..
It looks close, but they might have used a long lens, or the shot might be cropped tightly. Or both.

Not bad… but honest opinion? They lack contrast (no doubt a product of the overcast conditions). Thirty seconds with the curves tool would do wonders. Bring the black point and white point in to the ends of the histogram, apply a subtle S curve and the images will pop more. The other shots in your photostream are much better, especially the night ones.

yes i applied contrast but then thought seeing as the weather was misty and drizly that these with not so much gave a good overall repro of the weather conditions!! besides that im not an expert with photoshop!!!!
The night shots are some nice work
