Arriva train drivers will strike this weekend

The latest in a series of walk-outs involving Arriva Train drivers will go ahead this weekend after talks broke down between the company and the workers’ union Aslef.

Sunday train services could spiral into disarray across Shropshire and Mid Wales with drivers refusing to work overtime.

Arriva today said that “regrettably” progress had not been made at a meeting yesterday with Aslef regarding drivers’ pay. No Arriva Trains Wales services will operate on Sunday.

I think you will find if you do look at the facts our trains are one of the most punctual in britain due to the efforts of the drivers , it is not that we dont want to work the problem is also not with money the company is offering as the offer on the table is acceptable , apart from the fact that they are trying to force us to work sundays which in most of our cases is the only time we get to see our kids , you must understand that we work a 24 hour clock and the shifts are brutal – this week i have been starting at times at 2 , 3 , 4 in the morning with shifts aroound the 9 – 10 hour mark – if i had to work sunday also i would be working a 10 day strech like this , so ten days without seeing or spending quality time with my family ….. I do hope you enjoy your day out with you family and please next time engage your brain do a little bit of research before you start tapping on a keyboard

Hi mark you didnt offend me , its more frustration than anything with all of us because all the general public only get the medias input on this and the companys managers are who feed the media with information so we are always deemed as the unhelpful greedy workfrce , this is the same managment who say we are payed less because we are welsh . Like i said in the earlier statment its not the fact that we want more money its the fact that they are trying to take our only guarantied day off that we can spend with our family or follow up on any interests we have in life . Go upto any driver within our network and you will find that we are a commited friendly bunch of people and im sure that most of us would be more than happy to explain the situation . I at the moment am in a 11 day stretch in my working shift patten and at the moment i can opt out of working sunday which would meen a decent break from work if i could not opt out of this i would be doing a 102 hour shift pattern with bad out of hour work , so no body clock , no family time and no hobbie time and most of all recovery time to reset my body . I do aprechiate the job and the money it provides my family and i like to think im the most proffesional i can be . Like i said it just gets a bit frustrating somtimes because we seem to get it in the neck from both the managment and the customers . I hope you wasnt messed around to much as none of us like this cause of action but somtimes it is just the only way forward with the arriva managment .

          best regards

D.Pressed – you should be grateful you have a job at all. If you dont like it just leave and do us all a favour and let people who want a job have it. Whinge whinge whinge, people a lot worse off than you !!

@ herb , i think you have it the wrong way around .. i think the company should be greatful that they have a long term never sick never late employee , i have put 14 odd years into this job why should i leave ( if i do leave it takes them alot of money and a year to train somone ) all i want is a fair crack at the whip there are drivers in the same company on £10000 plus more than us . We want and We will get a fair deal all 500+ of us
