Man, 21, jailed for unprovoked assault in Telford pub

A drunk who launched an unprovoked attack against a man in a Shropshire pub has been jailed for 30 months after being told by a judge he was “not fit” to live among society.
Judge Peter Cooke said Ashley Morris had an “appalling” record for violence.
The 21-year-old, of Wigmores, Woodside, Telford, pleaded guilty to assaulting Paul Onions at The Elizabethan pub in Woodside on November 6 last year.
Shrewsbury Crown Court heard how Mr Onions, who is in his 50s, was left with three missing teeth, two broken teeth and damage to his ear following the assault by Morris, who had drunk 13 pints of lager and only been released from prison weeks earlier after another attack.
Mr Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting, said: “During the evening the victim went outside the pub to the smoking area and overheard the defendant on the phone saying ‘what do you mean what am I wearing?’
“Mr Onions said ‘tell them you’re wearing a red dress’.
The joke fell flat and the defendant said ‘do you think you’re being funny’, before walking off.”
Benjamin Williams, for Morris, said his client had suffered a difficult childhood and had trouble dealing with anger and conflict.
