Shrewsbury woman to repay £1 over £28,000 theft
Tuesday 1st March 2011, 4:30PM GMT.
A 42-year-old Shrewsbury woman who stole more than £28,000 from her Shropshire employer has been ordered to pay back just £1 under a confiscation order.
The order against Lesley Jean Smout was made at Shrewsbury Crown Court.
Judge Peter Barrie was told that Smout, of Dunbar, Harlescott, had benefited by £28,232 from her criminal activity. But he accepted she had no available assets.
Last year, Smout was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, with 200 hours unpaid work.
