Wem homes evacuated in gas leak

Thursday 24th February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.

Fifteen homes were evacuated for a short time following a gas leak in Wem.

Firefighters were called to Lowe Hill Gardens at about 1pm yesterday after reports of a broken gas pipe at a property.

Ian Cliff, crew manager at Wem fire station, said neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution while gas engineers were called to the scene for repairs.

He said: “The pipe had broken between the connection to the outside meter and the isolating valve at the property.”
