Sainsbury’s to create 80 Telford posts
Thursday 24th February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s will be creating 80 jobs at its Telford Forge Retail Park site as part of plans to extend the site by more than 50 per cent.
The company today announced a major regeneration of its site off Colliers Way, including an extension to the side and the front of the store.
Store bosses submitted plans for the scheme to Telford & Wrekin Council this week but it is not yet known what it will cost.
Christian Wakelin, Sainsbury’s development executive, said: “The proposed extension will improve the shopping experience for our Telford customers, as well as creating a number of jobs for local residents.
“The proposed development will create up to 80 new full and part-time job opportunities and Sainsbury’s employment policy is to recruit the majority of staff from the local community.
“The application has been validated and submitted to the council. We don’t know at this stage when they are going to make a decision and until we know that we can’t start with any work.
“Local people can have their say on the plans by visiting the planning section on Telford & Wrekin Council website.”
The application says work would include extending two sides of the store, which would increase the floor space by more than 2,000 sq m, as well as increasing the number of car park spaces by more than 50.
A new customer entrance would be created, the store’s restaurant moved to a new mezzanine level, new toilets built and the online shopping service would be available in store.
Anyone wishing to discuss any aspect of the plans can contact Amy Kershaw at Sainsbury’s on freephone 0800 975 5299.
