Reward offered after Bridgnorth dog theft
Thursday 24th February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
The owner of a hearing dog for the deaf which was inside a vehicle stolen from a Shropshire petrol station today offered a reward for her safe return.
Peter Ward, who is partially deaf, said he was lost without his border collie dog, Soot, who was stolen on Tuesday night as she was inside Mr Ward’s Land Rover Discovery which was taken from the Tesco’s Hermitage Service Station in Low Town, Bridgnorth.
Mr Ward, 52, from Chelmarsh, near Bridgnorth, said Soot allowed him to lead a normal life as she told him when the phone rang, if someone was at the door or to alert him to traffic.
He said the pair had not been apart for the past eight years and offered a reward to anyone who could return Soot safe and well.
Mr Ward, a building conservationist, fears the thieves may have dumped his dog and sold on the £10,000 of building conservation equipment inside the vehicle, including a £4,000 Canon camera. The thieves struck when Mr Ward left his vehicle outside the kiosk on the forecourt with the keys in the centre console.
He said: “She’s brilliant – she’s part of my life. I just cannot get my head around what has happened.”
Police are studying CCTV in a bid to catch the thieves and have urged anyone who saw a silver 08-registration Land Rover Discovery in the area or heading towards Kidderminster to call 0300 333 3000.
