Badgers may prolong Shropshire road closure
Tuesday 22nd February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
A road near the south Shropshire border, which was closed after breeding badgers tunnelled under it and caused it to collapse, could be shut for some time, it was revealed today.
Contractors Amey, drafted in by Herefordshire Council, said they need to apply for a special licence to deal with the badgers that have set up home under the road between Willey Chapel and Willey Lodge, near Leintwardine.
Highways workers were forced to close the road last Wednesday after the badgers caused a large hole to appear in the carriageway.
A spokesperson from Amey said the situation was complicated as it appeared that the badgers were breeding.
