Council talks over free Oswestry wi-fi bid

Monday 21st February 2011, 11:29AM GMT.

Councillors are to be asked whether wi-fi should be installed in Oswestry’s Powis Hall indoor market – and whether it should be provided for free.

Town council markets manager David Clough says in a report to go before councillors on Wednesday, that wi-fi is “essential” in moving the market forward.

But he said councillors would have to decide whether market stallholders should have to pay for the service or get it free.

Mr Clough said many markets throughout the UK were taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the internet.

He says in his report: “There are additional advantages to being online but from a retailing point of view these are the most advantageous to retailers.

“In order to move the market forward and to help keep it sustainable the service is essential.

“As new traders come to the indoor market this service is being requested more and more.”
