£16,000 spent in Shropshire border wind turbine fight
Friday 18th February 2011, 6:30PM GMT.
Residents fighting plans for six massive wind turbines near the Shropshire/ Staffordshire border have forked out more than £16,000 on consultants.
The application, to be decided by South Staffordshire Council, is for six of the tallest turbines in the country to be built within the grounds of the Bradford Estate, Weston-under-Lizard.
The turbines would be 413ft (126m) tall – two-and-a-half times the height of Nelson’s Column in London.
Wind Prospect, which has submitted plans on behalf of the estate, has said electricity generated would power more than 6,000 homes, inc-luding some in Shropshire.
But angry nearby residents claim the turbines would ruin the landscape.
Now the King Street Stag (Stop Turbine Action Group) has brought in consultants to boost its argument.
Stag vice chairman Tony Skelton said: “We are about to submit a substantial rebuttal document to Wind Prospect’s application and that will be going in early next week.”
He said the document cost about £16,000 and outlined all the reasons why the turbines should not be app- roved for the site.
Mr Skelton added: “About 400 people have written personal letters to object.”
He said if the application was turned down and Wind Prospect appealed, the group could face a bill of more than £50,000.

How can the country move into using sustainable energy when people protest against such a simple development. One of the most popular complaints I hear is ‘this will be to noisy..’ YOU LIVE ON THE A5!!!

It gets boring to hear doesn’t it. Too noisy and they’ll ruin the landscape.
One, they have to be certain distances from dwellings to minimise any noise disturbance and
Two, not everyone thinks they’re ugly – I don’t Plus, most of them have planning permissions with a time period restriction!
If we plan to keep hold of this country, let sustainable techniques take place without having to spent extra thousands of pounds having to battle planning and residents!!!!

Can Wind Prospect please tell all parties when and at what time these turbines will supply enough power for 6000 homes, most wind farms have yet to achieve their quoted outputs, something to do with the fuel not being very reliable, sort of drifts in and back out again…..ah yes nature.
Tell the truth people, they have the potential when conditions allow to supply 6000 homes, they won’t do it 24/7/365, oh and they need to import power too start up so where’s that come from then? France? ah yes and with 70 potential it’s been made by a nuke..nimby.
