Oswestry campaign groups have called for a town manager and more support for local businesses in a wishlist to Shropshire Council.
OS21, the town’s civic society and CPRE members have joined together to try to get benefits for businesses and tourism from through a Section 106 agreement with the proposed new superstore and cinema development at the Smithfield livestock market.
Oswestry Coalition has now sent a letter to the unitary council calling for a town centre manager to promote the town.
Business support workshops have also been suggested as well as better signs for the town and improvements to the Gasworks bridge to help the Cambrian Heritage Railways with its project.
Red Square and Market Square were also highlighted as areas campaigners would like to see improved. Members said this could encourage an “overall improved atmosphere” to attract people.

I wonder how many of the members of this unholy coalition actually live or work in Oswestry – and how many ordinary members of the public they actually represent?
I would rather speak to my local councillor who has at least has to put themselves up for election every 4 years than the chair of a pressure group who doesnt have to bother asking my opinion
I see in the Star that Whitchurch has a WH21 group now – seems to be a rash of them

@ Oswestrian:
why don’t you attend the coalition meetings? They are open and free and you’ll be able to ask if members live and work in Oswestry.
Indeed you’ll see they are all ” ordinary” members of the public, but you might be surprised to see some elected representatives there too.
What do you find so wrong in people getting together to discuss, promote and support the sustainable development of their town and economy? Some would call this ” the Big society”.
