Telford & Wrekin Council repairs 3,000 potholes

Telford & Wrekin Council today said it had filled more than 3,000 potholes in two weeks after the big freeze caused damage to roads across the county.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pothole Busters campaign was launched at the end of January after complaints poured in from drivers having to endure treacherous conditions.

Council chiefs say eight out of 10 reported potholes have been filled and added the campaign would receive extra funding to ensure remaining potholes in the borough were dealt with.

The holes appeared across Telford after one of the coldest Decembers on record caused road surfaces to break up. In response council bosses doubled the number of pothole busting teams from four to eight until the end of March.

Adrian Lawrence, cabinet member for environment and rural area, said potholes were one of the authority’s top priorities.

He said: “Improving the public roads across the borough is one of the council’s top priorities and that’s why we’re putting extra resources into deal with the potholes as a matter of urgency.

“The campaign’s got off to a good start and I’d encourage the public to report any pothole problems they see, including the location and damage to the road, to our Pothole Busting Hotline.

“One pothole report often results in a number of potholes being filled, particularly if these are urgent,” he added.

In January an AA poll involving nearly 2,000 members named Telford as one of the worst places in the country for roads scarred with potholes. And a similar campaign last year saw the council fill an estimated 11,500 potholes in a two month period.

yes its easy to criticise the state of Telfords roads after the weather we’ve had which is the basis of labours council election campaign but as usual facts expose the false reason. The Council is making the repairs but locals need to report these pot holes more, you can’t expect someone else to; I did and guess what? The pot hole was repaired!

They want to try filling them in properly. Particularly Shifnal road in Priorslee which after last winter was done in the August and now has the same old holes getting bigger and bigger. If they don’t do it properly in the first instance its just going to be an annual event. I’m sure there was a miner or two popping up in the larger holes!
