Grocontinental in £2.25m expansion plan
Monday 14th February 2011, 11:33AM GMT.
The £2.25 million expansion of a north Shropshire company will create new jobs in the area.
A new 40,000 sq ft warehouse at Grocontinental’s headquarters on Whitchurch Business Park is due to be completed in May.
The warehouse is being built to attract new business to the firm and will house 8,000 pallets of dry goods.
It is not known exactly how many jobs will be created but bosses say it is likely to be a “handful.”
Company bosses say they have taken a positive approach to the economic downturn, resulting in increased warehouse capacity, a new fleet of vehicles and the introduction of a fully-integrated warehouse IT system.
Over the last two years company turnover increased from £21.9 million in 2008 to £25 million in 2010.
David Grocott, joint managing director, said: “Demands from the food industry are increasingly rigorous.
“By investing carefully but boldly in new construction, our fleet and software innovation, and by providing our customers with flexible tailor-made solutions, we have been able to remain very competitive in our industry.”
