Three arrested after Shrewsbury jewellery shop robbery

Three people remain in police custody today after being arrested following reports of a robbery at a jeweller’s shop in Shrewsbury.

Two men, one in his late teens and another in his 20s, and a woman in her 30s were arrested in the Castlefields area following the incident at Fabricius Green in High Street at about 11.15am yesterday.

Officers were called following reports a man wearing a hooded top with the hood up had entered the store and snatched two rings from a member of staff before making off up Fish Street in company with a second man.

Police arrived within minutes and carried out an extensive search of the town centre and surrounding areas. The three suspects were arrested a short time later.

A gold Rover car was also seized from the car park in North Street for examination.

The two rings remain outstanding and Detective Inspector Mick Homden, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone who might find them discarded or hidden anywhere, particularly in areas between the town centre and the car park in North Street, Castlefields to contact police.

“CCTV from the area is also being examined and I am keen to hear from anyone who might have witnessed persons running or acting suspiciously in the area, particularly around Fish Street, Castle Street and then into Castlefields,” he said.

“Two rings were stolen from the jewellers and these remain outstanding at this time. If anyone comes across either or both of these or knows of their whereabouts now, please contact police immediately on 0300 333 3000.”

One ring has a platinum band with a large, brilliant cut solitaire diamond while the other is 18ct white gold with three brilliant cut diamonds and rows of small diamonds on the shoulders.

DI Homden added that nobody at the jewellers was injured but staff had been left shaken by the incident.

“We have released photographs of the stolen rings in the hope that someone may or may already have come across them but did not realise their significance,” he added.

The three suspects in custody are due to be interviewed today.
