Telford welcomes Stadco expansion plans

Tuesday 8th February 2011, 4:41PM GMT.

Car parts manufacturer Stadco’s expansion into Telford with the creation of up to 80 jobs was today welcomed by the borough’s council chief.

Councillor Andrew Eade said yesterday’s announcement was “fantastic” news and showed the business community’s confidence in Telford.

Shrewsbury-based Stadco has bought the 18-acre former Ogihara site in Hortonwood which has been vacant since 2009.

The acquisition will result in an additional 50 permanent jobs, with a further 30 required during the start-up phase.

Councillor Eade, the leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, today said the authority had worked very closely with Stadco to help make the acquisition happen.

He said the council was right behind the company’s bid for regional growth funding, which might help support further growth at the Hortonwood site.

He added: “Stadco’s investment represents a clear boost for jobs and growth in the borough.

“For many years Telford has been recognised as a regional growth point and the area continues to be one of the fastest growing in the West Midlands.”

Stadco managing director Dermot Sterne said: “We are very excited and optimistic about Stadco’s future.

“After having had to react to the impact of the industry downturn, then consolidate and restructure our business, it is clear that Stadco is now well placed to take advantage of the increase in economic activity.

“The new facility will provide the company with a further platform needed to meet the future requirements of our customers for years to come.”
