Death on line leads to Shropshire rail delays
Tuesday 8th February 2011, 2:37PM GMT.
Rail passengers faced delays getting to Shropshire this morning after a man was killed when he was hit by a train in North Wales.
The incident happened in Bodorgan, Anglesey, and involved a Virgin train travelling from Holyhead to London Euston.
Police were called to the scene just before 5.30am and the line between Holyhead and Bangor was closed for more than three hours while officers carried out investigations.
Five train services were scheduled to run direct from Holyhead to Shrewsbury during that time.
The line was reopened shortly after 8am. No trains were cancelled and services are now running to time but delays were caused to a number of morning services.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the railway line near to Bodorgan Rail Station on the Isle of Anglesey, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“British Transport Police and North Wales Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 5.19am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Paramedics from North Wales Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The line was clear from 8.05am and the train which was involved continued its service.
“In order to reduce delays it ran non-stop from Bangor to Chester.”
