Man dies after being hit by car at Prees Green

An elderly man died after he was hit by a car on the A49 in north Shropshire. Emergency services said the incident happened on a stretch of the road in Prees Green, near Whitchurch, on Saturday morning.
The pedestrian, who has not been named, was being given CPR by two off-duty midwives when ambulance crews arrived after he had a heart attack. He also had a serious head injury.
The man was airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire, in Stoke-on-Trent, but was declared dead at the hospital.
The incident happened at about 11.30am on Saturday and the A49 was closed until about 4.30pm.
Claire Thomas, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: “When crews arrived on scene they found two off-duty midwives giving excellent CPR to a man who was in cardiac arrest and had a serious head injury.
“The man had reportedly collided with a car.”
