Woman sexually assaulted on Shropshire train

A 45-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on board a train approaching Wem, police said today.

British Transport Police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident which happened on a train approaching Wem Railway Station.

It is alleged to have happened at about 4.30pm on January 21 on the 3.30pm Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen service.

Constable Emma Harper, investigating officer, said: “The 45-year-old victim was waiting to get off the train as it approached Wem Railway Station when she felt a hand on her leg. She turned around and the man who was touching her leg then attempted to kiss her.”

The man police are seeking is described as white, aged about 35 to 40, with an olive-skinned complexion, small build and about 5ft 4ins to 5ft 6ins tall and short black hair.
