Body may be exhumed for reburial with wife

The body of a Shropshire man may have to be exhumed from a village churchyard so that he can be buried with his wife.
The couple, who have not been named, had requested a joint grave at the churchyard in West Felton, but were buried in separate plots.
Now West Felton Parish Council is setting aside money in case it has to bear any cost of an exhumation.
Chairman Councillor David Curtis said that when the wife died in 2002 the husband had requested to be buried alongside her. He died in 2008.
Councillor Curtis said: “When the time came for his burial, for technical reasons they could not be buried together.”
He said the couple’s family, who live outside the county, had been pressing for the matter to be resolved.
“I and others have now had a meeting with the couple’s son to see how we can go forward,” he said.
He added the parish council had agreed to take money from its reserves and put it into the budget for the coming year in case it was needed for an exhumation.
The parish council was also looking to appoint someone to have responsibility for the churchyard, he said.
Councillor Curtis said that the matter had taken time to deal with because of the council’s problems in finding a long-term clerk.
