Welshpool headteacher suspended
Wednesday 2nd February 2011, 2:13PM GMT.
A Mid Wales headteacher has been suspended from her post while education bosses carry out an investigation into allegations against her, it has emerged.
Suzanne Foster has been asked to temporarily leave her post as headteacher of Maesydre Primary School, in Welshpool, pending the outcome of an undisclosed investigation carried out by her employers, Powys County Council.
Parents were sent a letter yesterday informing them of the suspension but the nature of the allegations have not been revealed.
Emma Savage, spokeswoman for Powys County Council, said today interim measures had been put in place at the school.
She said: “I can confirm that the headteacher of Ysgol Maesydre has been suspended from duties pending investigation into allegations.
“Suspension is a neutral act which is taken in order to enable an investigation to take place. Interim measures have been put in place.”
Councillor Ann Holloway, chairman of the school governors, refused to make any comment but the letter to parents was signed by her.
It said: “Allegations have been made against Mrs Suzanne Foster and the decision has been taken to suspend her from duty with immediate effect.
“This will allow investigations to be carried out.”
One parent, who did not wish to be named, said: “We were given a letter yesterday which explained that Mrs Foster has been suspended following some allegations.
“It came as a great shock as it would never have been expected but I have full confidence in the process and that the correct result will come of it.”
Antony Topazio, spokesman for Dyfed Powys Police, said the force was not involved.

A Powys headteacher remains suspended almost a year after an investigation was opened into allegations against her.
Eirios Hall was asked to step down at Ardwyn Nursery and Infants School, in Welshpool, last February pending the outcome of an investigation.
An interim headteacher has taken charge and will remain until the investigation has been completed.
John Evans, communications manager for Powys County Council, said Mrs Hall had been suspended until the investigation was completed.
