A5 roadworks postponed
Wednesday 2nd February 2011, 1:26PM GMT.
Plans to close a large section of the A5 trunk road running through Shropshire for maintenance work have been postponed, it was revealed today.
The work by the Highways Agency between the Churncote and Dobbies roundabouts on the outskirts of Shrewsbury was due to start on Monday.
But it has been temporarily postponed for a date to be fixed, the Agency said today.
It will last for 10 nights from 8pm to 6am when it is rescheduled.
Emergency services vehicles will be exempt from the closure and diversion routes will be signed for other road users.
Meanwhile, lights will be switched off for five hours at night on part of the M5 motorway from midnight tonight.
The plans will affect an eight-mile stretch between junctions two near Oldbury and four by Lydiate Ash in Worcestershire.
The Highways Agency said it hoped to cut back on the carbon emissions and light pollution by 40 per cent.
