Ludlow routes will close for repairs at same time
Tuesday 1st February 2011, 5:30PM GMT.
Two major routes in Ludlow will be closed at the same time this month while repair work is carried out to town centre buildings and a bridge.
King Street, between its junction with Bull Ring and Broad Street, will be closed to traffic from February 21 for about four weeks to allow essential repairs to be carried out to some shops along the road.
And last week it emerged that repair work to the town’s Ludford Bridge, costing about £90,000 and lasting roughly nine weeks, would also start on that date.
Ludford Bridge, which carries the B4361 across the River Teme, was closed on January 4.
Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for transport and IT, said: “We understand that the closure of King Street will cause disruption, especially as Ludford Bridge is closed. However, we will do all we can to limit this.”
Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said: “We hope that by co-ordinating all these works together, we will get the work done as soon as possible.”
While King Street is closed, traffic for the town centre will go through Brand Lane, where the one-way system will be reversed.
The exit from the town centre will be across Dinham Bridge.

Hope fully Mouchel will see sense to widen and strenghthen this bridge as they are repairing it to make it fit for the 60 ton trucks that are going to hit our shores due to EEC regulations coming in to force by the beginning of next year. See the Daily Mail newspaper for more details. We could even see 80 tonners in the not to distant future. Highways could be fined if they do not accommodate these larger vehicles.
Some times there is no holding back progress however much it seems to pain!!
The scaffolding on the bridge is going to be a work of art to see!!
