Hundreds of motorcyclists are expected to take part in a 22-mile Ride of Respect in Shropshire this April to support British forces fighting in Afghanistan.

The regional ride, starting at Meole Brace Park and Ride, Shrewsbury, and ending at RAF Cosford, Telford, will take place on April 3, starting at 8am, to raise money for the Afghan Heroes charity.

Event organiser Dave Porter said: “This year we’re doing rides to local RAF bases and we’re trying to get as many bikers involved as a way of saying thank you to the soldiers and raising as much money as we can for the charity.

“The first event was held last year and it was intended to be a one off but it just exploded, it went hell for leather, so we’re having another one this year.

“We will be riding for about 15 hours on the day. Anyone who owns a bike can take part but we will be riding on the motorways.

“I need to know who wants to take part for insurance reasons and to inform the police.”

The Ride of Respect will cost a minimum donation of £5 but it is hoped that thousands of pounds will be raised on the day.
