Telford’s pothole busters get to work
Monday 31st January 2011, 4:47PM GMT.
Pothole busters took to Telford’s battered streets today as a campaign got under way to fill hundreds of holes left by the freezing winter weather.
Workers targeted High Street, Edgmond, and Audley Avenue, Newport, today with work expected to continue until the pothole problems in the town have been fixed.
The urgent works are being given top priority by Telford & Wrekin Council, which launched its Pothole Busters campaign today, doubling the teams dealing with the problem from four to eight, and inviting members of the public to report as many potholes as they can.
Councillor Adrian Lawrence, council cabinet member for environment and rural area, said: “The condition of the public roads is a major issue for our residents.
“It’s also one of our top priorities – that’s why we are putting these extra resources into deal with this as a matter of urgency.
“While we have inspectors out every day on the roads, we want the public to play their part by being our eyes – people usually know where the problems are.
“So if you spot a pothole, tell us where it is and we’ll fill it. Give as much information as possible, regarding the location of the pothole or damage to the road so that inspectors can respond effectively.”
A similar campaign last year saw the council fill about 11,500 potholes with about 1,500 potholes reported by the public.
Earlier this month Telford was named as one of the worst places in the country for potholes, following a survey by the AA.
Residents can report a pothole 24 hours a day at www.telford.gov.uk/potholebusters or ring the Pothole Busters hotline on 384 000 from 8am to 7pm on weekdays.
