Shifnal’s Big Fling returning for royal wedding
Monday 31st January 2011, 3:43PM GMT.
Shifnal’s Spring Fling is to be revived this year in celebration of the Royal wedding.
The event was enormously popular in the 1970s and 1980s and was held annually on the playing fields at Wheatfield Drive, featuring maypole dancing and other family fun and games.
The drive to bring the event back is being led by the Shifnal Carnival committee, with a date pencilled in for May 1, two days after Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot.
Angela Mullett, chairman and treasurer of Shifnal Carnival Committee, said: “I understand that the Spring Fling used to be an annual event to raise funds towards the carnival.
“The idea is to make it a day of good old fashioned family fun.”
Details of both the Spring Fling and Shifnal Carnival will be available shortly on the website www.shifnalcarnival.btik.com
